I love the internet. Almost everything I do is on the internet. If it wasn’t for some problems, I probably would be totally in “the cloud.” But I still live in the desktop. Let’s go over some of the problems.

• Home Network insatiability – Routers constantly disconnecting, FairPoint having problems, snow storms, etc…
• The internet isn’t everywhere you are – In the car, on an Airplane, a place where you can’t get Dial-up, DSL, or Cable, etc…
• Too expensive or too cheap – For Cable, you pay a pretty heavy price, but get really speedy internet. For DSL, it’s slower, MUCH slower, and much cheaper. Also, if you want wireless wherever you are, you have to pay a really high price to a service like AT&T or Sprint, for pretty slow internet. Hey, at least you have it.
• Video editing – To edit video up in “the cloud,” you have to upload it first. Which takes a while, even if you have very fast internet. And if you finish the video, you’ll probably have to download it, which also takes a while.
• Services go down – Websites have outages when you need them most. This has happened with Twitter, Microsoft, and some other sites, like email.
• Mobile Devices are limited – Most Mobile Phones don’t have Adobe Flash, Microsoft Silverlight, Sun Java, and possibly Java Script.

As you can see, most of these points have to do with being disconnected. As I’ve said, I love the cloud, but I’m still going to download desktop Twitter, Facebook, and email applications just for those outages.

Update 8/6/09: Perfect example: Twitter is down. lol.
